“Palestine, Israel, Germany: The Boundaries of Open Discussion”

Tomorrow this disgraceful conference is to be held in Freiburg.  It is clear from the conference website that they’ve had some problems with speakers, but this is the current proposed line up:

Samir Abed-Rabbo

Gilad Atzmon

Ramzy Baroud (on video)

Ibrahim El-Zayat

Sameh Habeeb

Alan Hart

Evelyn Hecht-Galinski

Makram Khoury-Machool

Ken O´Keefe

The fact that some have withdrawn from the conferece could have something to do with the presence of the odious antisemite Gilad Atzmon, the subject of many posts on Harry’s Place.   All of the speakers are highly critical of Israel and some go a good deal further. Sameh Habeeb, editor of the Palestine Telegraph, has written and published  many horrendous pieces. Here you can read an email he sent threatening Nothing British with legal action.

Alan Hart has worked for both ITN and the BBC – he is also a troofer whose response to Breivik’s murders was a piece called Norway’s monster and the poison of Zionist propaganda. He knows exactly what he’s getting into, as he ignored appeals to withdraw from a recent seminar where he spoke alongside Atzmon.

Evelyn Hecht-Galinski has caused controversy because she:

equates Israeli policies with Nazi Germany’s, and has said that a “Jewish-Israel lobby with its active network is extended over the world, and thanks to America its power has become so great…”

Ibrahim El-Zayat is described as a Professor of Islamic Studies on the speaker list.  According to this (translated) Wikipedia entry, he has been linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Ken O’Keefe sailed with the Mavi Marmara, and has condoned Hamas’ horrific treatment of ‘collaborators’.  Here he compares Jews who fail to condemn Israel with Germans who did nothing to stop Hitler.

Even if you know nothing of the speakers, you can learn a good deal about the nature of this event by reading their latest ‘conference statement‘.

One would expect that a gathering of this nature would challenge Israeli and Zionist propagandists to react negatively. What a surprise? So far we have had very little trouble from Israeli or Zionist individuals, groups and institutions. In fact those who work diligently at trying to discredit and destroy the conference are a few who, for some reason, identify themselves as “Jewish ‘anti’- Zionists”.

You may ask yourself why these people want to silence such an important meeting of academics, experts and activists. What are they scared of? What interests do they serve? Are they genuinely “anti-Zionist”

This group has been campaigning against the conference, drawing attention to the most hateful speakers.
