Israel

Totally unabashed

One would think that following a protest that deteriorated to a violent riot, the leaders who flamed this violence would be somewhat subdued, not to say ashamed, of their actions. But not the diligent backbencher of Israel’s ruling coalition, fearlessly leading the charge against illegal African migration! Yesterday a Knesset House Committee debate was held on the subject, with all the usual suspects in attendance. Here are a few quips:

MK Dani “Deportation Now” Dannon (Likud): “Because of leftists, inflitrators raped a 15 year old girl in South Tel-Aviv”

MK Miri “Cancer” Regev (Likud):  “How come after African workers went to a swimming pool in North Tel-Aviv they had to clean it for two days?”

MK Amnon Cohen (SHAS): “Most infiltrators carry infectious diseases”

Topping it off, MK Yulia Shamalov Berkovich, of the supposedly center-left Kadima party told everyone what she thought should be done with you-know-who:

“All human rights activists should be imprisoned and transported to camps we are building,”

Asked later to withdraw the comment, she refused. To which we can only say: First they came for the human-rights activists, and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a human-rights activist…
