The Popinjays reveal the news that George Galloway is now facing a three-pronged investigation into his financial dealings with ex-Iraqi dictator saddam Hussein:
Both the UK Charities Commission and the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards have been provided with detailed notes from the US Senate permanent sub-committee for investigations. More worryingly for the member for Bethnal Green they have also been sent to a battery of US prosecutors – the US Department of Justice, the Federal Prosecutor in Washington DC and New York, and to the Office of the District Attorney for Manhattan are now involved:
The US Justice Department confirmed it would investigate. It said: “We are obliged to investigate any potentially criminal matter brought to our attention.”
Coleman…said he has decided to send his dossier to US prosecutors at all levels as his “overwhelming evidence” is sure to secure a prosecution.
With typical bravado Galloway spent much of last week saying he was “begging” to be prosecuted.
It’s probably too late to remind the diminutive Dundonian to be careful what he wishes for.
