If we had a left

Now, if we had a left alternative to New Labour, this is the kind of criticism it could and should be making of Blair’s government.

That’s what gets me about the people Aaronovitch was annoyed about in the Observer (see below) – they have failed to produce any sort of serious democratic socialist critique of New Labour – its all emotions, impressions and personalities — and they have not even tried to present an alternative.

But then Hattersley, unlike the Bruschetta Brigade and unlike Tony Blair, is a Labour man.

Greater equality is a moral imperative and an indispensable element in the battle to eliminate poverty. It is also a fundamental social democratic aspiration.
