Porn and politics

One of my occasional objectives on this blog is to try and drive a wedge between business-oriented libertarian Republicans and social-conservative/religious Republicans. (See my posts about Kid Rock from last January.)

So I’m pleased to report that hardcore porn producer Mark Kulkis and one of his star performers, California gubernatorial candidate Mary Carey, will attend the President’s Dinner– a GOP fundraising event featuring President Bush– in Washington. Kulkis is a member of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

ABC News reported last February that a number of cable TV companies “which generate millions in profits from providing adult content” make big political contributions to Republicans “elected, in no small part, because of their stance on ‘moral values.'”

That Republican candidates use money from pornographers to produce and broadcast advertisements in which they piously proclaim their commitment to “family values” is, of course, a wonderful irony. I wish the Democrats would take advantage of it, but I’m sure they also get money from pornographers. If they would refuse such contributions, the political payoff could be enormous.
