More about Fern Holland

Friday’s Washington Post has more about Fern Holland, the American lawyer working on behalf of women’s rights in Iraq, who was murdered Tuesday.

It’s telling that in addition to working at children’s hospitals in Siberia and Africa, building schools in Namibia and running a legal assistance clinic for victims of sexual abuse in Guinea, she also worked for a law firm in Washington specializing in protecting the rights of American workers– to overtime pay, union representation and the like.

Regardless of what one thought of the Iraq invasion, I think all those who identify themselves as part of the Left ought to feel a special sense of solidarity with her and what she was doing.
