BAT gets out of Burma

I mentioned here a number of weeks ago that British-American Tobacco was jointly operating a cigarette factory with the murderous and repressive Burmese military. Now, giving in to pressure, BAT has announced it is selling its share in the operation.

“The sale agreement follows the exceptional formal request by the British Government in July for us to reconsider our investment,” said Michael Prideaux, BAT’s director of corporate and regulatory affairs.
