Thought for the Day

Raed Abdel Misk, the latest Hamas suicide bomber who killed 20 people yesterday, was supposedly a respected imam and scholar who, according to relatives:

“had been driven to martyrdom by resentment of the Israeli occupation and knowledge of the Koran

Later on the Times Letters Page (no link) we are reminded of the words of Oscar Pfister, a Swiss Protestant pastor:

“Tell me what you find in your Bible and I will tell you what sort of man you are”

Perhaps this should be a reminder to us that it is not neccessarily religion which is the problem in the Middle East, nor one particular religion but the interpretation individuals put on religion.

It takes a special type of person to believe that killing scores of children and leaving your own fatherless is doing God’s work.
