The principal difference between Hassan Butt and Salma Yaqoob, it seems to me, is that the former has achieved Orwell’s famous “power of facing unpleasant facts,” while the latter– despite her insistence that “Muslims must… not deny there is an intolerant, sectarian strand of Islam that provides fake theological justifications for terrorism”– isn’t there yet.
