Hurricane Isabel (or what was by then a tropical storm) blew through the Washington, DC, area Thursday and Friday. It didn’t seem particularly ferocious to me, but it managed to knock a tremendous number of trees onto power lines. I was without power for more than 72 hours, and just got it back early this morning. They brought repair crews in from as far as Georgia. There are still hundreds of thousands without power on the East Coast. As almost always, though, it could have been worse.
