Mitt finally gets it

As Donald Trump continues his successful effort to make the campaign for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination all about Donald Trump, one of the Republicans who has finally got around to denouncing him is 2012 GOP candidate Mitt Romney.

This came after Trump suggested that John McCain, who spent six years as a POW in North Vietnam, was not a war hero, and then sarcastically said he was a war hero. Or something like that.

Well done, Mitt. Of course some of us realized that Trump was a jerk whom any serious person should have nothing to do with three years ago, when you collected $2 million for your campaign at a fundraiser he hosted in Las Vegas.

The interesting (and slightly frightening) thing is that even after Trump called Mexicans migrants to the US drug dealers and rapists, and after he trashed McCain’s war record, there are still rightwing populists who support him– and who utterly despise McCain as a sold-out establishment RINO (Republican In Name Only) and consider Trump a brave truth-teller who never wimps out by apologizing.

Of course Trump won’t get the nomination. But don’t expect him (or his fans) to go quietly.
