Labour PPC suspended over Israel tweets

Although Labour MP Michael Connarty seems (so far) to have got away with his bizarre and offensive comments about ‘Israeli spies’, another Labour politician has been penalised for describing Israel as ‘evil’ and Hitler as the ‘Zionist God’.  She even suggested that ISIS should attack Israel.

One post on Kirby’s Twitter account read: “We invented Israel when saving them from Hitler, who now seems to be their teacher.” Another read: “I will never forget and I will make sure my kids teach their children how evil Israel is!”

Kirby supports a boycott of Israeli products, but Ed Miliband, the Labour party leader, said in June: “The threat of boycotts of Israel is the wrong response. We do and we will resolutely oppose the isolation of Israel.”

Kirby also tweeted: “Apparently you can ask IS/ISIS/ISIL questions on ask.fm. Anyone thought of asking them why they’re not attacking the real oppressors #Israel?”

Kirby was heading to Manchester for the Labour conference yesterday when she was told of her suspension as a candidate.

Good riddance.

As the Sunday Times reports, other Labour figures have also been censured for sexism and homophobia.
