A result of mismanagement, corruption and sanctions, it’s been brewing for many months. But now some Iranians have taken to the streets to express their frustration with soaring prices.

EA WorldView reports that chants included “Shame on these high prices”, “Be ashamed Government”, and “Leave the people to be free.”
In The New Yorker last May, Laura Secor wrote about a visit to Iran, during which she discovered that the regime was far more worried and sensitive about her reporting on the state of the economy than they were about reporting on the political opposition, including the Green movement.
Chicken, a staple of the Iranian diet, has become unaffordable for many people. Reuters reports:
[Iran’s national police chief] urged television stations to avoid broadcasting images of people eating chicken, saying such pictures could fire up social tensions, with perhaps unforeseen consequences.
“Certain people witnessing this class gap between the rich and the poor might grab a knife and think they will get their share from the wealthy,” Mehr news agency quoted him as saying.
No matter how bad things get for ordinary Iranians, I’m sure the regime– as long as it lasts– will find the money to continue paying George Galloway’s Press TV salary.
