The subtext seems to be, “He’s dying, but at least he can still walk unaided, and he still cares, so give him one last victory by voting for him.”
A rather melancholy start for his reelection campaign, and it’s hard not to feel some sympathy for him as a human being facing mortality. It would be nice to think that the prospect of death had moved him to reconsider his support for brutal and murderous dictators like Bashar al-Assad, especially in light of the recent massacres in Syria by pro-regime militias. Sadly, no.
