After ten years “in the closet”, George Galloway says that he is a Muslim
George Galloway, MP for Bradford West, is a Muslim. He converted more than ten years ago in a ceremony at a hotel in Kilburn, north-west London, attended by members of the Muslim Association of Great Britain. Those close to him know this. The rest of the world, including his Muslim constituents, does not.
The Muslim Association of Britain is the British franchise of Hamas/Muslim Brotherhood. Getting converted by the MAB is a bit like being converted to Christianity by Fred Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church, working together with the Ku Klux Klan.
Given that Galloway has married a number of Muslim women in religious ceremonies – indeed, he now has two wives! – and given that Imams will not generally marry Muslim women to non Muslim men, we correctly speculated that he must have converted.
I wonder why he converted. Deep religious conviction? Love? 9/11?
Why would he have kept it a secret?

… and he now denies it, in classic Gallowayian style:
“The opening paragraph of Jemima Khan’s piece in the New Statesman (referring to an alleged conversion ceremony) is totally untrue. Moreover I told her it was fallacious when she put it to me. I have never attended any such ceremony in Kilburn, Karachi or Kathmandu. It is simply and categorically untrue.’

But when I asked George’s long time aide Ron McKay just now whether he was a Muslim (and that he may have converted at some other time), he refused to answer saying religion was a private matter.
Still, hard to tell what is going on here. There’s no “ceremony” to convert to Islam. Just a few words you need to say. So perhaps the denial is a limited one.
Say what you like about Galloway – and we do – he is bloody good value!
