The Assads vote

As the killing in Syria goes on, Bashar and Asma Assad came out to vote in his hastily-called constitutional referendum.

Assuming the translation is accurate, can anyone explain what point (if any) he is trying to make? That Syria’s government-controlled media is superior to the government-controlled media of other dictatorships? Even if that were true, is it really something to brag about?

Speaking of Asma, Piers Morgan of CNN recently interviewed Joan Juliet Buck, author of the infamous “Rose in the Desert” profile that appeared in Vogue shortly before the Syrian uprising broke out.

Buck tries to suggest, not entirely convincingly, that she carried out the assignment more or less against her will.
