In his thoroughly incoherent speech Tuesday (just listen to it for a minute or two at any point and you’ll see what I mean), Bashar al-Assad talked about the necessity of controlling the entry of foreign correspondents into Syria.
I see what you mean, Bashar. You let journalists into the country and the next thing you know, they’re dancing at opposition demonstrations (as this Japanese correspondent did in Homs):
On the other hand the death of French journalist Gilles Jacquier– killed along with eight Syrians in an RPG attack in Homs– is a reminder of the risks that members of the press take when they enter areas of conflict to try and give the rest of us some idea of what’s happening.
