Mitt Romney is frantically trying to prop up his conservative credentials in an effort catch up with Newt Gingrich in the contest for the Republican presidential nomination. (I suppose the effort will become even more frantic after someone unearthed a 2002 video of Romney saying that “my views are progressive.”)
But really, Mitt– do you want the endorsement of Christine (“I’m not a witch”) O’Donnell— who said one of the things she likes about Romney is that “he’s been consistent since he changed his mind”? Or an ad featuring Ann Coulter?
Now Romney has the chuts-pah to attack Gingrich for his one-time support for action on climate change, when in fact Romney himself has undergone a similarly not-so-mysterious conversion to global warming skepticism.
Meanwhile, in tragic news for those of us who enjoy Republican/rightwing train wrecks, Donald Trump has canceled plans to moderate a GOP debate after only two of the seven main candidates agreed to participate. In better news, Trump has broached the possibility of running as an independent candidate for president in 2012.
