IEngage, is an NGO which attacks Muslim liberals while defending hate preachers and Islamist political parties and institutions. Astonishingly, they actually managed to scupper an All Party Parliamentary Group on Islamophobia, by pressing their own candidacy for the secretariat of that group, until the Tory and Labour Chairs resigned.
In their response to the Prevent Review, iEngage demonstrates, once again, how unfit they are for any role in public life. Here’s an extract:
And then the Daily Mail refers to the infamous Easter bomb plot claiming that
“Ten of the 11 Pakistani nationals seized on suspicion of plotting an atrocity in the North-West in 2009 had student visas.
“The alleged ringleader of this plot – Abid Naseer – was a computer studies student at Liverpool John Moores University”
– no further elaboration on the spectacular debacle of the so-called bomb plot and the shameful deportation of the men, many of whom had invested heavily in their education courses in the UK, to save Her Majesty’s Government and police forces any embarrassment over the cock-up
Spectacular debacle it was – you’ll remember that the arrests took place, rather earlier during the process of information gathering than it was intended, when Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick was snapped with a file containing details of the case.
Interesting, however, that iEngage is still running the line that the men were “shamefully” deported to cover up a police “cock up”. Here’s a little “further elaboration” missing from iEngage’s report:
A judge in London has approved the extradition to the US of an alleged al-Qaeda operative accused of planning attacks in the UK and America.
Abid Naseer, who has denied being involved in terrorism, was told by Westminster Magistrates’ Court that he should stand trial in the US.
The 24-year-old Pakistani was among 11 men held in 2009 accused of a plot in Manchester.
…
But in July last year, the US said it wanted to put Mr Naseer on trial for his part in alleged plots to plant bombs in the UK, New York and Norway.
The US said that that Mr Naseer was operating under the direction of al-Qaeda and was the UK contact in a broad international network, allegations he denies.
Actually, I suspect I’m being naive in suggesting that iEngage has simply forgotten the full facts of the case. No doubt, they regard this all as a wicked plot by that nasty Mr Obama to bang up an innocent man.
This, by the way, is why it is important that iEngage doesn’t become the secretariat of the APPG on Islamophobia, if it ever gets started again.
