On Newsnight this evening, the Syrian ambassador to London Sami Khiyami was talking to Jeremy Paxman about recent demonstrations and violence in Syria.
Trying to follow the ambassador’s conspiratorial logic, Paxman asks Khiyami if he thought the Israelis might be behind all this. Khiyami replied,
“The Israelis could be behind any bad thing in the world”
Later on in the interview, Paxman asked Khiyami about President Assad’s violence against his own people.
The conversation went something like this:
Paxman: “Don’t you think it’s time to stop torture?”
Khiyami: “To Israel?”
Paxman: “No, I’m talking about your own country!”
