The video section of the MEMRI website is now requiring free registration, but it’s worth it to watch a student at Shiraz University in Iran speak truth to power during a speech by Parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani.
Here’s the transcript:
Student: Today, I have no questions for you, as the speaker of the Islamic Parliament of Iran, because of the disqualification of many [candidates] before the parliamentary elections, and because of the many cases of fraud in the elections process, as acknowledged by MP Dr. ‘Imad Afrugh… I don’t recognize you as the speaker of the Islamic Parliament of Iran. This is an illegal parliament. You are the speaker of an illegal parliament.
Cheers from the audience
Student: I would like to voice my complaint in the following manner. I am nauseated by three things: One – Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I am nauseated by his support of Hugo Chavez. I am nauseated by the fact that he is a demagogue. I am nauseated by the “aura” around him. Finally, I am nauseated by him because I can’t stand his face.
Crowd: Ahmadinejad, Ahmadinejad, we support you.Student: Okay, this part is over.
Crowd: Ahmadinejad, Ahmadinejad, we support you. Death to hypocrites.
If you watch the video, you’ll see that only a part of the crowd chanted in support of Ahmadinejad.
