The Independent is reporting this morning that condemned student journalist Sayed Pervez Kambaksh will not face execution, according to a senior government official in Afghanistan.
There is no official confirmation but the paper quotes a ministerial aide, Najib Manalai saying: “I am not worried for his life. I’m sure Afghanistan’s justice system will find the best way to avoid this sentence.”
The news comes on the back of the international campaign, which has so far seen 67,000 sign the Independent’s online petition and more than 800 joined the Facebook group.
