The full scale of casualties, damage and destruction is still unclear, but I fear it won’t be pretty.
Update: Commenter DoubtingThomas says he heard a presenter on the London radio station LBC say that it would be more “fair” if Katrina struck George Bush’s Texas rather than the “poor people” in Louisiana.
Further update: Using a terrible natural disaster to attack one’s political opponents is not the sole prerogative of Bush haters. Rightwing talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been calling the storm Hurricane Katrina vanden Heuvel, after the editor of the leftwing Nation magazine.
Another update: I hope everyone realizes this is no laughing matter.
