Galloway supports occupation

At the risk of turning this blog into Gallowaywatch…..from Lebanon’s Daily Star newspaper:

Commenting on the row within Lebanon over UN Security Council Resolution 1559 and the country’s relationship with Syria, Galloway said: “I see 1559 as an attack on Syria and Lebanon.”

Galloway added that he “cheered” last week’s pro-Syrian demonstration in Beirut, insisting that Arab unity was required in order to “resist” Israel.

He said: “I’m no friend of the Syrian regime, but Syrian troops in Lebanon maintain stability and protect the country from Israel. Lebanon is an Arab country with a border with the Zionist state and that is a very dangerous place.”

So Galloway, no friend of the Syrian Ba’athist regime, opposes UN security council resolution 1559.

The resolution called for support for a free and fair presidential election in Lebanon conducted according to Lebanese constitutional rules devised without foreign interference or influence and, in that connection, called upon all remaining forces to withdraw from Lebanon.

The organisers of the demonstration that Galloway “cheered” were Hezbollah, the Shiite Amal movement, the Syrian Socialist National Party, and the Lebanese branch of the Baath party, which is the ruling party in Damascus.

Update: While we are talking Galloway, Tribune columnist backs our call for victory until Bethnal Green Bow.

He was “Saddam’s little helper”, as the Telegraph headline had it, even if he wasn’t personally paid for his services and even if all the documents the Telegraph turned up were fakes. Now he’s decided to stand against Oona King in Bethnal Green and Bow, democratic socialists should make sure this apologist for kleptomaniac totalitarian dictatorship is dumped in the proverbial dustbin of history — where he belongs — by volunteering for her campaign.
