Africa Arrests

The battle between Mugabe and those who suffer under his misrule has flared up again

Lovemore Matombo, the President of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trades Unions was taken into custody after his organisation attempted to organise protest marches across Zimbabwe.

Mr. Matombo told VOA the union planned the march as a nationwide protest against high taxes, the rising cost of living, and alleged human rights abuses committed by the government. Shortages of cash and fuel are common in Zimbabwe, and the official inflation rate has climbed to 426 percent. In addition to its economic worries, Zimbabwe is in the midst of its worst political crisis since independence in 1980.

If anyone knows the best way of providing solidarity with these people I’d be grateful.
