You don’t think that the Russians want war?

The Russian Embassy in the UK has issued the following ‘tweet‘ assuring – or reassuring (if you’re Billy Bragg) – the British people that it “doesn’t want war”. Alas, I find this about as convincing as the assurances of George Galloway on Valentine’s Day in 2022 when he stated that Russia was not poised to invade Ukraine. What a gesture, when his customary bunch of roses – red, of course – would have done!

I suppose now would be a good time to repost the song we produced a few years ago to more accurately address the question of whether or not “The Russians want war”.

It is beautifully sung by a fresh and naive voice more suited to the original’s absurd optimism as the truth presented here belies the youthful passion of the vocalist. Here are the ‘new’ lyrics, by moi, Ms L Lips…
