Although some opponents of the Iranian regime are putting their hopes in the candidacy of Hassan Rouhani, it appears that Friday’s carefully-controlled presidential election will produce no substantive change.
As exiled labor leader Mansour Osanloo writes in The New York Times:
The candidates on the ballot have been preselected in a politically motivated vetting process that has little purpose other than ensuring the election of a compliant president who will be loyal to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Khamenei’s Facebook page explains in graphic form the difference between an American and Iranian presidential election:
(According to George Galloway’s Iranian employer Press TV, the US Democratic party isn’t solely under Zionist control; the states that have legalized same-sex marriage “are largely governed by lawmakers from the Democratic Party, known to be under major influence of Zionist Jewish and homosexual figures.”)
And of course the key to Iran’s “pure democratic process”: imprison, rape and torture anyone who protests the official result.
