In the wake of the car bomb blast Friday in Beirut that killed Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan– a top Lebanese security official– and several others, the question naturally arises: who is responsible?
Let’s consider the evidence:
Hassan was close to former PM Saad Hariri, who is hostile to the regime in Syria. He had been tipped to take over as [Internal Security Forces] head at the end of this year. Hassan in past years has come under fire from pro-Syrian March 8 figures.
In August, Internal Security Forces Director General Ashraf Rifi commended Hassan’s work on the case that led to the arrest of former Information Minister Michel Samaha on the charges that latter was colluding with Syrian regime officials to conduct terror attacks in Lebanon.
Hassan also presented evidence to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon investigating the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafiq Hariri. The tribunal indicted four Hezbollah members for the murder.
Now I know what you’re thinking. However the Syrian regime, its patron Iran and its ally Hezbollah have all piously denounced the assassination.
In Damascus, Syrian Information Minister Omran Zoabi told reporters: “We condemn this terrorist explosion and all these explosions wherever they happen. Nothing justifies them.”
Further, George Galloway works for the Iranian regime, has lavishly praised the Syrian regime and has glorified Hezbollah and its chief. And George wouldn’t have anything to do with lying, murderous leaders– would he?
What’s more, he has assured us— against all evidence– that Israel carried out the Hariri assassination.
Gee, I wonder whom they’ll accuse now?
