You may remember that there was something of a kerfuffle around Imam Suliman Gani during the London Mayoral campaign. Under Parliamentary privilege David Cameron accused the Tooting Islamic Centre Imam of supporting Islamic State.
Cameron then backtracked on the claim and his spokesman apologised claiming he meant Gani supported “an Islamic State rather than Daesh”.
Interestingly enough in a letter published by The Independent (same link as above) Gani claimed that:
“For the avoidance of any doubt I say again that Islamic State is in no way compatible with my beliefs. I condemn IS wholeheartedly, and have done so repeatedly in public and in private since its inception.”
Here’s what Suliman Gani looks like, it’s a photo taken from the HHUGS website:
Here at Harry’s Place we’re wondering if he takes the same stance on Al Muhajiroun as he does on Islamic State. That guy in the background at a Saviour Sect demonstration outside the US embassy in 2005 looks a lot like him:
Saviour Sect was one of the many incarnations the group took on after the Al Muhajiroun brand became too toxic.
It’s also a group proscribed by the government in 2006.
Isn’t that Gani in the pics below?
There were plenty of other people at that demonstration, one of them was Anjem Choudary:
Another was Mizanur Rahman;
Both of them have just been sent to prison for five and a half years for their support of Islamic State.
Wouldn’t it be odd if a person who claims to condemn Islamic State was at a demonstration with a bunch of people who went on to support them to the extent that they’d end up in prison?
