The excellent historical Twitter account WW2 Tweets from 1943, which is following the war from 72 years ago on a day-by-day basis, reminds us of the sometimes horrible price of ultimate victory in even the most just cause.

Surely decent people were sickened by the news. But just as surely they understood it was a terrible mistake and did not change the necessity for the war to continue until the Nazis were defeated.
