More on the Galloway letters

Readers will probably already have seen a redacted letter sent from Chambers solicitors on behalf of George Galloway with regard to allegations of libel. According to a further such letter, recently published by @suedbygalloway, George Galloway’s solicitors were requiring, not just money to cover legal costs, but compensation as well.  This news comes in the wake of complaints made to the Solicitors Regulation Authority by some of the twitter users Galloway’s solicitors had targeted for libel demands. The Guardian reported:

The bitter legal dispute, which has erupted over accusations of antisemitism, has become more complex after Galloway’s office said the money would only be used to cover his law firm’s expenses and the Respect party leader would not “receive a penny”.

The @suedbygalloway account was set up to offer free legal advice to those affected and, according to the HuffPo, ‘has since gained the backing of several high profile lawyers including solicitor and libel expert Mark Stephens and Mark Lewis.
