The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch reported on January 27 that Anas al-Tikriti, a senior member of the UK Muslim Brotherhood, was part of a meeting between President Obama and Osama Al-Nujaifi, Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
Anas al-Tikriti is a British-Iraqi academic, activist and commentator. He is a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Britain, having served as President of the Muslim Association of Britain before leaving to found the British Muslim Initiative, with his colleague Mohammad Sawalha, a former Hamas operative. He now runs the Cordoba Foundation, an organisation identified by David Cameron as “political front for the Muslim Brotherhood”.
According to the Hudson Institute, Anas al-Tikriti is “one of the shrewdest UK-based Brotherhood activists … [who] has sought to persuade Western governments that they should fund Brotherhood groups as moderate alternatives to al-Qaeda”.
In interviews, Tikriti has expressed support for “the right of the Iraqis to engage in legitimate resistance against foreign occupation”, even if that means killing British and American soldiers. He also supports Hamas, which he says “supports democracy” and should not be regarded as a terrorist organisation. He has written in defence of the Muslim Council of Britain’s decision to boycott Holocaust Memorial Day, describing it as a “principled stand”.
Tikriti’s father, Osama, is the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing in Iraq, the Iraqi Islamic Party.
