It’s been grimly amusing to watch Congressional Republicans– who regularly excoriate “big government” and love to quote Ronald Reagan— scrambling to fund their favorite parts of big government during the partial shutdown they caused.
Perhaps this is one reason why favorable attitudes toward Republicans have dropped to a 20-year low, according to a Gallup poll. (Approval of Democrats has also dropped, but is still 15 points higher than the GOP.)
By contrast here’s my favorite senator, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, calling out the Republicans on their hypocrisy and sticking up for the positive and vital role of government:
