The counter-counter-jihad: Facebook groups under attack

I posted a little while ago about Saif Rahman’s problems with his Facebook group.  This seems to be part of a wider phenomenon whereby groups and pages critical of Islam are being targeted.  Of course this is going to affect a lot of sites which certainly aren’t going to feature on the HP blogroll, and it was on Sharia Unveiled that I found out about a group called We Want Facebook To Remove All Groups & Pages That Against Islam (sic).  This is apparently their mission statement.

”This page is created for the sole purpose of removing all the groups and pages that are against Islam. If 50,000 people report those Groups and Pages than facebook will disable.”

It’s possible that there might be legitimate grounds for reporting some of these pages within Facebook’s own guidelines, just as there are some extreme Muslim pages – Robert Spencer recently posted a link to one titled ‘Behead those who disrespect our Prophet’ – but a concerted campaign, one which appears not even to distinguish between genuine hate sites and perhaps more academic or secular groups – I believe Femen has been affected – is another matter.
