This is a cross post by Marc Goldberg from The Times of Israel
According to the Weekly Standard the Obama administration has seen fit to honour an anti-Semitic al-Qaeda supporter with the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award. This is an inauspicious beginning to John Kerry’s stint in the role and a slap in the face to those facing terrorism everywhere.
One of the 10 recipients of the award is Samira Ibrahim, she “was among seven women subjected by the Egyptian military to forced virginity tests in March 2011.” She also tweeted her happiness at the news that a bomb had blown up a bus in Bulgaria carrying Israelis, who she calls Israeli soldiers:
Here is the same with help from Google translate:
The Weekly Standard points out numerous anti-Semitic statements on Ibrahim’s Twitter feed though she denies that she posted them saying that “My account has been previously stolen and any tweet on racism and hatred is not me.” I find this pretty disingenuous given that Samuel Tadros writing in the Weekly Standard has given numerous examples of hate speech written over a relatively long period of time. He has brought to light statements from Ibrahim such as;
“Today is the anniversary of 9/11. May every year come with America burning.”
As well as describing the ruling Al Saud family as “dirtier than the Jews” and quoting Hitler;
“I have discovered with the passage of days, that no act contrary to morality, no crime against society, takes place, except with the Jews having a hand in it. Hitler.”
Why on earth the US State Department, John Kerry or Michelle Obama would want to give a medal to an anti-Semitic, America hating lunatic is beyond me.
Perhaps you might know?
Gene adds: The Obama administration postponed (and I assume will ultimately cancel) the award after news broke of the hateful and antisemitic tweets attributed to Ibrahim. Clearly this was a failure of adequate research. I know some ODS sufferers will disagree, but there’s no way the Obamas or John Kerry would have approved the award had they known about this.
