Of course Britons aren’t the only ones who elect raving demagogues to represent them.
Rep. Allen West [Republican of Florida] has done it again.
At a campaign town hall event on Tuesday, the Palm Beach Post reports, West declared that he’s “heard” that up to 80 House [of Representatives] Democrats are members of the Communist Party. However, he would not name any specific people.
Well, Congressman, I’ve also “heard” a lot of things. But I don’t feel compelled to repeat the craziest of those things in public forums.
Even the late Senator Joseph McCarthy limited himself to finding (mostly imaginary) Communist party members employed by government agencies, rather than in Congress itself.

It seems he was equating membership in the Communist Party with membership in the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
