This is James Haywood:
He is the new president of Goldsmiths’ Student Union. Here you can read Haywood boasting about how great student-led boycotts of Israel are. Haywood was one of the protesters who made it to the top of the Millbank building last year, and “occupied” Tory HQ.
Haywood wants to go beyond these temporary occupations.
Haywood was interviewed by Socialist Resistance in January 2011.
When asked,
What will success look like for the student movement in three months? In six months?
Haywood replied,
The real success will be turning our occupations into disruptive instruments. We need occupations to stop universities from working, not just symbolically ‘liberated’ spaces. If we begin to stop universities from operating, then we have the kind of leverage that can genuinely win this fight.
I wonder if Haywood included this paragraph in his election manifesto.
