Readers in the US may want to watch a film on PBS tonight about the American relief effort for victims of the terrible famine in the post-revolution Soviet Union. In an irony which will be forever unacknowledged by Leninists, the assistance– administered by none other than future Republican president Herbert Hoover– may have saved the Soviet Union from early collapse.
