The literary critic Terry Eagleton has written a book due to be published next month by Yale University Press. The title: Why Marx Was Right. Given that the title contains one statement and that statement in itself is false, one can hardly expect much from the book. The economist Tyler Cowen has got his hands on an advanced copy and has extracted a few ridiculous quotes from the book for his blog. Below I copy just one that he has noted:
…there is a paradoxical sense in which Stalinism, rather than discrediting Marx’s work, bears witness to its validity.
All I can is that I am glad I an not one of Professor Eagleton’s students on a day when he is a bad mood.
Duck!
