Speaking of Hezbollah:
This is a photo of a Hezbollah military parade last month in the Lebanese city of Baalbek. Can anyone tell me if a stiff-armed salute has a different cultural or political connotation in the Arab world than it does in the West?
Hezbollah was among the hosts of an “anti-globalization” conference in Beirut last September. Other participants included George Galloway and John Rees of the UK Stop the War Coalition.
A leading American antiwar group, United for Peace and Justice, also was represented at the Beirut conference, although according to their website, “UFPJ’s participation in this important conference in no way implies our endorsement or tacit approval of the use of violence by any conference sponsor or participant.”
Oh. OK then.
