Here’s an article from the Times which sheds some light on the educational policies of Franco’s Spanish dictatorship.
My favourite quotes from the article deal with what Spanish children learned in schools:
children were taught that Jews drink the blood of Christians and that human liberty leads to anarchy.
and a direct quote from a schoolbook:
Spain has seven enemies: “Liberalism, democracy, Judaism, masonry, Marxism, capitalism and separatism, all defeated in the Great Crusade, although not annihilated. They hide like venomous insects, continuing to poison the air from the shadows.”
It’s easy to forget that such stuff was being force-fed to children in a major European country less than 30 years ago.
