Born Rich

Interesting interview on National Public Radio with Jamie Johnson– an heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune– who has made a film about the lives of those born into great wealth. (The movie, called Born Rich, was shown Monday night on HBO but, suffering as I am with basic cable only, I had to miss it.)

Johnson says many rich people– who as a rule don’t like to talk about money– were quite unhappy about his making the film. (His father, whom he interviewed, was one of them.) As he explains it, “This is supposed to be a meritocracy and you’re supposed to earn what you have. So when you start to contradict that understanding of how our society operates, it angers people.”
