IN WHO’S NAME?

As the dust settles on the ‘anti-war’ demonstrations, Channel Four news has a rather confusing set of poll results about Iraq with all sorts of strange and contradictory signals from the public.

But the figures that really matter come right at the end of the story on the C4 website: If Tony Blair got a majority of the Security Council to back military action – even if one or two countries vetoed a second resolution62% would back a war.

As I suggested a few weeks ago much of the real public anxiety is about Britain being perceived as lone-backers of the US and is not really against the idea of taking action against Saddam at all.
