One of the key players in the Leicester communal unrest was Majid Novsarka “Freeman”. He was introduced as a community organiser then by C4 News, Sky News and the NYT and was basically mainstream media’s on the ground guide to the riots. You can guess how desperate the media was to frame the unrest as poor muslims being forced to retaliate against hindu thugs supported by foreign forces. Well we are 4 years in and the truth is somewhat different.
Majid Freeman has been the target of several terrorist investigations but has managed to escape conviction. There was a 2024 hearing at the Old Bailey where he was given a 22-month sentence. He served less than a week in prison before being released and appealed his conviction. In January 2026, the Leicester Crown Court overturned his conviction. His acquittal was hailed as a victory for the faithful.
Freeman’s case illustrates that maintaining principle under pressure is not only about confrontation — often, it is about restraint, clarity, and composure. Muslims in Britain will at times face hostile narratives or false accusations; this verdict shows the importance of patience and perseverance upon the Haqq.
Then May this year, a Birmingham jury was unable to reach a verdict during his trial for social media posts expressing support for Hamas and terrorism. Majid is a key figure in left, islamist and pro-palestinian circles (a venn diagram would show only a single circle) receiving considerable support from many political figures. From Novaramedia :
During the trial, Freeman denied all charges. He said that he did not support Hamas but that “everyone has the right to defend themselves,” including with the use of force. He added that in the wake of 7 October and Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, he had used his social media activity to call for a ceasefire.
Former Leicester East MP Claudia Webbe was among those who testified on behalf of the defence, previously describing Freeman as “a trusted mediator, anti-knife crime campaigner, and community organiser”.
A retrial is scheduled for September 2027. Freeman and his legion of supporters have been grandstanding on his legal victories as complete vindication of his character and beliefs.
However the authorities are not letting up. The latest is that Leicestershire Police have seized assets worth over a quarter of a million pounds from Freeman’s residence.
The assets seized include well over £200,000 in cash and several crypto-currency wallets.
The document from Nottingham Magistrates’ Court sets out six separate applications by Leicestershire Police against Novsarka under the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001.
One request is for the forfeiture of £239,008 of what the document describes as “terrorist cash” seized on 19 March last year.
Oh dear, the islamophobic persecution of poor Freeman continues apace.
