British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, seems incapable of just saying “it’s a fair cop” and moving on. Why can’t he just apologise to his former colleague, independent MP Rosie Duffield, who was essentially driven out of the Labour Party over her so-called “gender critical” views. Shamefully, he failed to defend her while now proclaiming to now share her views following the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming that “women” means biological women for the purposes of the Equality Act and similar law.
Before the election he said: “trans women are women”. He continued: ““A woman is a female adult and, in addition to that, trans women are women, and that is not just my view, that is actually the law.” Going all in, he said he backed calls for the Gender Recognition Act to be amended so transgender people could get legal recognition based on their self-declared gender.
But now, according to the BBC, he no longer believes that transwomen are women.
So why won’t he just admit he’s changed his mind?
Tory Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch must speak for most of us when she asks him to show some moral courage.
Indeed, several Labour MPs have come out as ‘GenderKeir’ in their efforts to gaslight the public into believing they always held views consistent with the court’s ruling.
Harriet Harman, for example, is seen here saying two years ago that a man with a gender recognition certificate is a woman. But this week, according to The Telegraph, Harman “welcomed the ruling and said it reflected her intention when drafting it, adding: ‘Single-sex spaces for women are important and can exclude trans women but only where necessary.‘”
Another example is Bridget Phillipson who a year ago – when still a shadow minister – seemed to think that a man with a GRC declaring them a woman – even if they had not undergone sex reassignment surgery and had an intact penis – could use the women’s lavatory. She now seems to have significantly back-pedalled in a BBC interview.
And here, Health minister Karin Smyth gives a masterclass in that sort of gaslighting.
There are several other examples, but every scenario is similar.
Meanwhile, there is apparently a plot afoot to reverse the court’s decision. Let’s see where this goes. But if they do go down this path, it’ll be interesting to see how ‘GenderKeir Starmer’ wiggles his way out of the reverse of what he believes today which is the reverse of what he believed last week.
