NPCs (non-player characters) are characters found in games, most often video games, that are controlled by the game mechanism rather than a player. They fill up the screen, have limited moves and vocabulary, and sometimes glitch. They often serve as a metaphor for behaviour that is highly predictable and un-selfaware.
