Messiah dies; life goes on

AP reports:

The Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the self-proclaimed messiah who turned his Unification Church into a worldwide religious movement and befriended North Korean leaders as well as U.S. presidents, has died, church officials said Monday. He was 92.

Who can forget the rev’s eye-opening remarks at the 15th anniversary dinner for the Unification Church-owned conservative newspaper The Washington Times?

Or the time he had himself crowned Messiah at the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington?

The moral of the story is: if you’ve got lots of money, nobody who wants it, or who appreciates what you’re doing with it, will tell you how truly weird you are.

Update: My favorite revelation from the rev:

The five great saints and many other leaders in the spirit world, including even Communist leaders such as Marx and Lenin, who committed all manner of barbarity and murders on earth, and dictators such as Hitler and Stalin, have found strength in my teachings, mended their ways and been reborn as new persons.
