The Venezuelan weekly magazine Kikiriki (“cock-a-doodle-do”), which blogger Daniel Duquenal describes as “a rag sheet for some radical groups within chavismo,” recently featured the following front page:
As best as I can translate the headline at the top, it proclaims (regarding the presidential candidacy of Henrique Capriles Radonski, who is challenging Hugo Chavez):
We are fucked if the Jews come to power
You can see the related articles here. You don’t have to be fluent in Spanish to grasp the meaning of such phrases as “capital sionista imperialista.”
This is not the pro-Chavez media’s first antisemitic attack on Capriles, a practicing Catholic who is the grandson of Jews who survived the Holocaust in Poland.
I fear there is much more of this to come. Will Chavez’s “leftwing” Western supporters be speaking out any time soon?
