Texas Congressman Ron Paul, a candidate for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, is running a TV ad reminding GOP voters that in 1988, his fellow candidate and fellow Texan Rick Perry was a leading backer of Al Gore’s 1988 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
This is a rather, um, inconvenient truth for Perry, given Gore’s current status as a leading bogeyman among the GOP faithful.
The ad contrasts Perry’s support for Gore with Paul’s early support for Ronald Reagan. I suppose Perry could retaliate by running an ad pointing out that Reagan was at one time a New Deal liberal who endorsed Harry Truman and the Democrats over Thomas Dewey and the Republicans in 1948.
Hey, Reagan talked sense back then.
