Every so often a snippet of news comes along which makes something inside of you groan. The Daily NK reports on claims that tunnels in North Korea have been adapted for mass-executions of political prisoners if the regime ever be threatened.
Elsewhere, as a result of studies of interviews with North Korean defectors, the number of camps and other facilities has been concluded to number almost 500. Stories from one, the woman-only Jeungsan Reeducation Center in South Pyongan Province put me in mind of female survivors of the Soviet gulag who suffer prolapsed uteruses following beatings.
To borrow a phrase, North Korea is a department store of human depravity which should be turned into a museum as Yad Vashem wishes to see done.
